1939 Obituary.[1]

Joseph Baty, born in 1894, was elected an Associate Member in 1922. He was educated at Gateshead County School, and, whilst serving his time in the Locomotive Works of the old North Eastern Rly., at Darlington, continued his technical studies at the Darlington Technical College.

He served five years in the Royal Field Artillery during the war, returning to Darlington in 1919 as a Draughtsman in the C.M.E.’s Dept, of the N.E.R. In 1936 he was transferred to the Central Drawing Office, L.N.E.R., Doncaster, where he continued until his decease on May 2nd, 1939, at the age of 44.
