Joseph Balme (d.1826)

From Graces Guide

1826 'On Monday last, Joseph Balme, wool-comb-maker, was grinding comb broaches, at a stone which is turned by water, in a mill near Keighley, in consequence of the rapidity with which he caused the stone to run, it flew pieces, and shocking to relate, he was killed on the spot. The deceased was native of Halifax, 23 years of age, and was short time ago married to the daughter of Mr. Henry Smith, his employer. He has left a wife in a state of pregnancy to deplore his death. On Monday morning he mentioned that he had the night before dreamt that he was brought home a corpse or dreadfully mutilated.'[1]
