John Young was born in 1875, and was educated at Anderson's College, Glasgow.
His apprenticeship was served with Brown Bros., Hydraulic Engineers, Edinburgh, and with G. W. H. Fraser and Co., Glasgow, after which he occupied various positions with Crossley Bros., Buchanan Bros., and Rennie and Prosser, Ltd., Glasgow.
From 1913 to 1928 he was Director and Works Manager of Tait, Foster and Young, Ltd., Motor Engineers of Glasgow, and thereafter was in practice as a Consulting Engineer.
He died on 25th April, 1935, at the age of 60.
He was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1933.
