As "an insurance industry expert on the risk of fire and the subsequent use of fire protection" he collaborated with Dowson, Taylor and Co to develop their business in Fire Protection[1].

SIR JOHN WORMALD'S VISIT.
Sir John Wormald, who for 36 years was managing director of Mother and Platt Limited, of Manchester, and who recently retired from business, is at present on a visit to Sydney. Sir John Wormald is on a pleasure trip, and although he has visited almost every country, the present is his first visit to Australia. He is visiting his relatives in Sydney, where Mr. H. P. Wormald is the managing director of Wormald Brothers Limited.
Sir John Wormald has had a life-long association with the cotton industry, the firm from which he has just retired being one of the largest makers of cotton bleaching, finishing, and dyeing goods in the United Kingdom and Britain. He not only has an intimate knowledge of the cotton industry, but has been closely associated with industry generally.
Since his arrival in Australia, Sir John Wormald has made inquiries regarding the cotton-growing industry here, and he is enthusiastic concerning it. "Next to wool and wheat" he said, "cotton should be Australia's greatest crop. I realise the difficulty that exists now regarding the labour necessary for the growing of cotton, and that must be overcome before the cotton industry will reach the position it is capable of achieving....."
