John Wilson (c1801-1872) of Wilson, Walker and Co
1872 April. Died. 'We announce with regret the death of Mr. John Wilson on Friday last, at his residence in Westmorland, aged seventy-one. For many years the deceased was loading partner in the firm of Wilson, Walker, and Co., Spanish leather dressers, Sheepscar, and retired from the firm only a few weeks ago. Until the last year or two, Mr. VWilson took an active part in all public matters affecting the welfaree of the town. He was a member of the Corporation, first as Councillor and then as Alderman, and in 1853 he was elected to the office of chief magistrate, as the successor of the late Mr. John Hope Shaw. He was also a magistrate of the borough. In politics he was a Liberal, and in religion he was an influential member of the Society of Friends.'[1]
