JOHN WILLIAM LIEB died at New Rochelle, New York, on the 1st November, 1929, at the age of 69.
Born in 1860, he received his early training in electrical engineering at the Stevens Institute of Technology, New Jersey.
In 1881 he joined the staff of the Edison Electric Light Co. of New York as a draughtsman, and was soon afterwards engaged in experimental work under Mr. Thomas Edison.
In the following year he was appointed chief electrician of the company, and in 1883 chief engineer and technical director of the Italian Edison Co., Milan.
He returned to New York in 1893 as a vice-president and general manager of the Edison Electric Illuminating Co. and a vice-president and associate general manager of the newly-formed New York Edison Co., eventually becoming general manager of the latter.
In 1928, after 25 years' tenure of these positions, he retired from active service and became senior vice-president of the companies.
He was elected a Member of the Institution in 1911, and was also a past-president of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers.
