John Waddell and Sons

Railway contractor built many routes during the rise of the railways across England during the late 19th century, especially for the North Eastern Railway, as well as the Scarborough and Whitby Railway, and completion of the Whitby Redcar and Middlesbrough Union Railway.

1882 rebuilt Putney Bridge in London

1886 Built the Mersey Railway Tunnel.

1883 Agreed to construct a tunnel under the River Thames between Tilbury and Gravesend, work which would have carried trains through to Dover for a potential Channel tunnel, although that proposal was eventually dropped.

1888 After the death of John Waddell, his three sons - George, Robert and John, carried on the business

1902 Coal owners and lessees of the Llanelly and Mynydd Mawr Railway

By 1911 Both Robert and John were coal merchants in the London area.
