JOHN RICHARD APPLEBY died suddenly on July 21, 1929, while on holiday, at the age of seventy-three.
Mr. Appleby was born at Jarrow-on-Tyne, and served his apprenticeship as an engineer with Messrs. Palmers. He remained with them, and was on the shipyard staff in 1897, when he was appointed works manager for Messrs. John Broadfoot & Sons, Engineers and Brassfounders, Glasgow, of which firm he was a director for many years, and with whom he was actively engaged at the time of his death.
Mr. Appleby was elected a member of the Institute of Metals on December 29, 1924.
