John Newton (1869- ) of Newton and Bennett
1869 November 20th. Born in Eccles, Manchester
c.1893 commenced business on own account in the cycle trade in Manchester
1898 entered motor trade, the first motor trader in Manchester
He was the first person to take out a private car registration in Manchester, N 1
1901 Living at Princess Street, Knutsford: John Newton (age 31 born Eccles), Cycle and Motor Factor - Employer. With his wife Jessie Newton (age 33 born Knutsford) and their daughter Kathleen B. Newton (age 5 months born Knutsford). Also his mother-in-law Fanny Banner (age 64 born Shrewsbury).[1]
Joined with Ceirano, and founded the S.C.A.T. Co. in Turin, placing the S.C.A.T. and Nazarro chassis on British market
1911 bought factory in Turin and produced the 12 h.p. Newton car, placing it on British and European markets
1911 Living at 17 Park Road, Pendleton, Manchester: John Newton (age 41 born Winton, Lancs.), Motor Manufacturer - Motor cars - Employer. With his wife Jessie Newton (age 43 born Knutsford) and their three children; Kathleen B. Newton (age 10 born Knutsford); Noel B. Newton (age 9 born Sale); and John B. Newton (age 4 born Pendleton). Two servants.[2]

Owing to breakdown in health during WWI he was prevented from continuing manufacture of the Newton car.
