Emigrated from Monmouthshire to Ohio in 1854.

When digging, he noticed a type of ore similar to the blackband he'd mined in Wales. He and James Ward, an immigrant from Staffordshire, exploited the ore, leading to the development of the Niles iron industry.[1]
