John Henry Carney ( -1914) of Mordey, Carney and Co

1914 Died. 'The death took place at Newport to day, after a long illness of Mr. John Henry Carney. Mr. Carney was a native of Newport, but came of a known North of England family, his father taking a leading part Min the earlier development of iron shipbuilding in South Wales. Deceased was apprenticed to the Newport Dry Dock Co upon the site of whose works the present establishment of Mordey, Carney Ltd., are erected, the former undertaking was taken over by Messrs carney and Mark Mordey under the title of Mordey, Carney Ltd., Mr Carney being the main director. He was also a member of the Newport Harbour Hoard and of Newport County Bench and was widely known and respected in South Wales.'[1]
