JOHN GODFREE SINGLE, born at Plymouth on the 27th July, 1846, died there on the 17th April, 1912.

In 1868 he entered the Indian Public Works Department, in which he served until his retirement in 1889. His work lay chiefly in the Irrigation branch, and amongst other work he had charge of the Sukkur, Begari and Sind canal divisions and of' a section of the River Indus.

He was formerly Captain commanding the Sukkur detachment, Sind Rifle Corps.

Mr. Single was elected an Associate Member of The Institution on the 2nd December, 1879, and was transferred to the class of Members on the 10th November, 1885.
