"JOHN GEORGE THOMAS SPRY, whose untimely death occurred on 30th March 1950 at the early age of thirty-four, was elected a Graduate of the Institution in 1942, and transferred to Associate Membership in the following year.
He was educated at Plymouth Grammar School and obtained his technical instruction at the Plymouth and Devonport Technical College. After serving his apprenticeship with the Plymouth and Stonehouse Gas Co, from 1933 to 1938, he remained with that company as a junior draughtsman for a further two years.
After 1940 he was assistant to Dr. Oscar Faber, M.I.C.E., consulting engineer, for whom he was engaged upon the design and construction of plant for Royal Ordnance Factories. For two years prior to his death Mr. Spry had been resident engineer in connection with the rebuilding of the House of Commons."
