1909 Obituary [1]

JOHN GEORGE BARKLEY, born on the 22nd August, 1865, died in London on the 1st July, 1909.

His early engineering career was passed in India in the service of the Bengal and North Western Railway and the Bengal-Nagpur Railway, of which latter he was appointed in 1897 Deputy Agent and Chief Engineer.

In 1902 he went to China as assistant manager of the Chinese Engineering and Mining Company, and in 1902 he was appointed Executive Engineer of the Shanghai-Nanking Railway, retaining the post until the completion of the line in 1908.

Mr. Barkley was elected a Member of The Institution on the 6th December, 1905.
