"JAMES FRASER EWEN FARRELL, B.Sc., was associated with the electrical side of mechanical engineering during the whole of his professional career, and was a valued member of the staff of the department of electrical engineering at the Royal Technical College, Glasgow, for over twenty-five years.
He began his technical training at Robert Gordon's College, Aberdeen, and after five years' war service with the Royal Corps of Signals, during which he rose to the rank of lieutenant, and served in France, continued his education at the Royal Technical College, where he obtained the Diploma in electrical engineering and graduated B.Sc. (Glas.) in 1921. On his demobilization in 1919 he held temporary positions as improver to an electrical engineer in Aberdeen and as charge engineer to the Glasgow Corporation.
He began his long connection with the Royal Technical College with the post of lecturer in 1921 and continued in this work, with the exception of two years' further service in his former rank with the Royal Corps of Signals, from 1939 to 1941, until his death, which occurred on 22nd January 1949, at the age of fifty-six. Mr. Farrell had been an Associate Member of the Institution since 1922. He was also an Associate Member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers."
