JOHN EVENDEN WEARING was apprenticed at Swindon locomotive works and proceeded thence to Messrs. Tangyes as a draughtsman.

After a short period in the carriage and wagon department of the Midland Railway at Derby he joined Sir A. M. Rendell and Son, and in 1878 went to Paris to superintend the laying of the Paris Steam Tramway.

In 1890 he commenced business on his own account as an inspecting and consulting engineer in Birmingham. He became associated with work in connexion with many railways abroad and in conjunction with Mr. W. H. Woodcock was responsible for the construction of one of the first concrete flood bridges in England for the Worcester County Council.

He was also associated with work for the Bombay and Rangoon Port Commissioners, and had carried out considerable work on the Continent, where he lived for some years.

Mr. Wearing was surveyor to the Bureau Veritas in the Midlands for many years.

He became a Member of the Institution in 1877.

He was born near Swindon in 1855 and died on 1st March 1928.
