JOHN ERIC NEWLANDS, B.Sc. (Edin.), born in Edinburgh on the 12th December, 1881, died in London on the 26th April, 1915.

After a short period with Messrs. Redpath, Brown and Company, of Edinburgh, he entered, in 1904, the service of the Canadian Pacific Railway Company, where he was engaged successively on bridge designing, survey and construction of branches, and irrigation work.

On completion of the latter work in 1914, he returned to England, and was about to take up an appointment in West Africa, when he succumbed.

Mr. Newlands was elected an Associate Member on the 1st December, 1908.
