John Bloomfield Jervis

John Jervis was an American railway engineer.

Born 1795 on Long Island.

1825 Joined the Delaware and Hudson Canal Co. He was also the Chief Engineer of the Mohawk & Hudson RR, for whom he designed the 0-4-0 locomotive DeWitt Clinton, which first ran in 1831. Problems with stability led him to introduce the leading swivelling truck, making the loco a 2-4-0.[1]
