1881 Living at the Smiths Shop, Sandford Village: James wright (age 58 born Sandford), Machinist and Farmer employing 12 men and 2 boys. With his wife Ellen; son James Wright (age 29 born Sandford), Machinist; and William Wright (age 26 born Sandford) Butcher and Farmer employing 3 men and 1 boy.[3]

1887 'At the Green Fair on Tuesday among the other exhibits of Mr. James Wright, West of England Iron Works, of Sandford, was a new modelled wagon built for Messrs. Sutton and Co., the well-known general carriers.'[4]
