1901 Living at 26 Portland Crescent, Chorlton upon Medlock: James Hewitt (age 45 born Scotland), Consulting Electrical Engineer- Employer. With his wife Isabella P. Hewitt (age 47 born Manchester) and their four children; Mary E. Hewitt (age 19 born Liverpool); Annie P. Hewitt (age 17 born Liverpool); Edith Hewitt (age 15 born Liverpool); and Margaret I. Hewitt (age 12 born Chester Newton on Hyde). One servant.[1]

1909 Patent No. 15,908 dated 7th July 1909 for differential steering gear[2]

1909 Patent No. 28,529 dated 31st December 1909 for friction variable gearing for motor vehicles [3]

1911 Patent. Inventor Arthur James Drake and James Mitchell Hewitt. Original Assignee Saver Clutch Co 'a new driving device or power conveying means in the form of a variable speed gearing'. [4]

1911 Living at Norwood, Cambridge Road, Hale, Cheshire: James Hewitt (age 55 born Glasgow), Consulting Electrical Engineer.

1918 February. Died. 'To-day the body was found the Midland Railway, near Matlock, of Mr. James Mitchell Hewitt, consulting engineer, of Hale. Cheshire. Deceased, who was about 60. had his possession & ticket from Manchester London. He apparently fell from an express last night.'[5]

Probate to his widow Isabel Paxton Hewitt.
