1879-90 Robert Augustus Oldham with Mr. James Kimber, then Engineer to the Corporation of Calcutta, prepared plant and estimates for the Trichipopoly water scheme, the Vellore drainage scheme and the Calcutta eastern suburban water scheme.

JAMES KIMBER died 1st December, 1916, at the age of 84.
He gained experience as Assistant to Mr. John Coutts, naval architect and shipbuilder, Wellington Quay, and as Assistant Engineer to the late Mr. (afterwards Sir) John Aird, Assoc. Inst. C.E., on the Stockholm Gas Works, and to Messrs. Dodds and Son, Rotherham.
After practising for a few years on his own account, he went to India in 1860, in the service of the Madras Irrigation and Canal Company. He afterwards joined the staff of the East India Irrigation and Canal Company, and was subsequently appointed Chief Engineer to the Municipality of Calcutta, which office he held for many years.
He was elected an Associate 6th December, 1859, and was transferred to the class of Members 9th November, 1875.
