1939 Obituary.[1]

James Hamilton McCulloch, elected a Member in 1923, was born at Glasgow in 1879 and was educated at Glasgow High School.

He served his engineering apprenticeship partly with each of the following firms Messrs. Sharp and Co., G. and J. Weir and Co., and Bruce, Peebles and Co. For three years he was with McCulloch, Potter and Co., Glasgow, then, in 1905, went to South America as Electrical Engineer in charge of the Junin Power Station of the B.A. and P. Rly.

After three years he joined the Galena Signal Oil Co. as a lubrication service engineer, visiting practically all the railways in the South American continent and giving valuable advice on lubricating matters to all and sundry.

With the exception of his military service with the Royal Engineers during the war years (1915-20), when he rose to the rank of Captain, he served the railway company up to the time of his decease, which occurred on the 22nd of January, 1939, after a long and painful illness. He was in his 60th year.
