1871 Living at 14 Paradise Street, Coventry: James Stringer (age 53 born Birmingham), Bookeeper (sic). With his wife Mary A. Stringer (age 51 born Coventry) and their son James C. Stringer (age 8 born Coventry)[1]

1886 Married at Coventry to Alice Richardson

1911 Living at Park Hill, Kenilworth: James Charles Stringer (age 48 born Coventry), Retired Cycle manufacturer. With his wife Alice Stringer (age 48 born Earlsdon, Coventry) and their son Hubert Leslie Stringer (age 20 born Coventry). Also his sister-in-law Clara Richardson (age 50 born Earlsdon). Married 24 years with three children of whom two are living. Also a visitor. Four servants.[2]

1915 November 1st. Died at Woodside Quarry Woods, Marlow. Of Park Hill, Kenilworth. Probate to his widow and son.

1916 Will. 'Major James Charles Stringer, Park Hill, Kenilworth, formerly in partnership with the late Mr. G. Singer in developing the Singer Cycle Co., who died the 1st November last, aged 52 years, left estate the gross value of....'[3]
