James Brindley (USA)
James Brindley (1745-1820), American canal engineer, and nephew of James Brindley
1745 Born in Staffordshire or Cheshire.
James's Quaker parents were Joseph (brother of James Brindley) and Sarah (nee Bennit or Bennett).
James was one of forty 'engenious mechanicks' recruited by John Ballendine to go to America to undertake work to improve inland navigation. They arrived on 7 July 1774.
He subsequently spent his working life engaged in canal work in the USA. He worked on most of the early canals constructed in the America in the eighteenth century.
He died at Wilmington, Delaware on 24 November 1820.
