1770s James Baldwin of Halifax, West Yorkshire formed his business using the spinning mule developed by Samuel Crompton.
Early in the 19th century, John Baldwin and James Baldwin set up their worsted and woollen spinning company J. and J. Baldwin in Halifax.
The company produced mainly yarns for commercial knitting machines.
1900 The company was registered on 1 December, to acquire the business of manufacturers of wools and hoisery yarns of J. and J. Baldwin and other firms. [1]
1920 Merged with John Paton, Son and Co to form Patons and Baldwins
