James Lindsay of Haigh Iron Works, Wigan.
1818 A beam engine was made by James Lindsay for the Hannibal Price Sugar Plantation, Jacmel, Haiti. This exists in an overgrown, derelict condition.
NB At this time the ironworks were owned by James Lindsay (1783-1869), Earl of Crawford. It seems unlikely that Lindsay himself made a beam engine but perhaps he had one made for the plantation.
