Mr. J. L. Hepworth, B. Sc. (Eng.) (Member), was educated at Ashville College, Harrogate, and at Bradford Technical College, where he graduated B.Sc. (Eng.) with honours.

From 1936 to 1937 he was with A. C. Wickman, Ltd., Coventry, as a jig and tool draughtsman. In 1937, he joined the research department of Hepworth and Grandage, Ltd. Bradford, and two years later transferred to the production departments, later becoming manager of the department manufacturing aero-engine piston and gudgeon pins. He was appointed a director of the firm in 1944, a position which he now holds.

Mr. Hepworth was awarded an Institution Graduates' Prize in 1943 for a paper on surface finish.
