J. L. Burbidge, MIProdE, MBIM, Member, was educated at Wellington School, Somerset and Cambridge University, He served a student apprenticeship at the Bristol Aeroplane Company, aeroengine division under A. H. R. Fedden and - with a break of 6 years in the RAF during the war - worked in the British engineering industry for 29 years. He has held posts in line management, production planning, production control, quality control and sales management and became Managing Director of Darlington Wire Mills.

For the past 11 years John Burbidge has worked for ILO, as an expert in production management in Poland and Egypt, as chief of projects for ILO in Cyprus and lately as Professor of Production Management at the Turin International Centre. He is author of five books on production control, production planning and group technology.
