of Axminster.

1895 Company founded.

1936 Private company.

1961 Manufacturers of steel type dies, moulds and press tools. [1]

The company produced a diverse range of equipment, from metal type for adding machines and, latterly embossing credit cards, etc., to machine tools (for example Multi-Drills for Archdale). A display relating to the company and its products can be seen at Axminster Museum. The factory has been demolished and, perhaps inevitably, replaced by a supermarket and houses. The only reminders are the steel boundary fence, with the logo 'JHS', and the name of the estate - Shand Park.
