Mr. Eyers served his engineering apprenticeship in the workshops and drawing office of Scotts Ship Building & Engineering Co., Ltd., Greenock, and graduated, prior to joining the Canadian & Pacific Steam Ships Co., Ltd., as marine engineer. After a few years sea service, he obtained the Ministry of Transport Extra Chief Engineer's Certificate and was then appointed to the inspecting staff of his present company, The Vulcan Boiler & General Insurance Co., Ltd., Manchester.

In due course he was transferred to the company's head office consultative department where he was engaged on preparing the designs and supervising the erection of various steam generating plants and on supervision of efficiency tests and investigations of problems connected with power plants. At a later date he was transferred to various departments dealing with the analysis and certification of boilers and pressure vessels until he was commissioned to the Royal Engineers during the 1939-45 war. When in the Army his duties were mainly concerned with power plant in connexion with port repair shipping and later in the running and maintenance of Middle East Railways.

On demobilization Mr. Eyers returned to the Vulcan Company, and was appointed to the position of the firm's chief boiler engineer in 1948.
