John Clough Vaudrey (c1854-1937), of Andrew Handyside and Co, Holmes and Vaudrey, Liverpool Electric Supply Co, Birmingham Electric Supply Co

c.1854 Born in Clapham, Surrey

1871 Pupil railway engineer, lodging in Derby[1]

1870-74 Pupil under Mr A. Buchanan M.I.C.E. at Britannia Iron Works, Derby[2]

1875 Became assistant works manager concerned with bridges, roofs and general foundry work.

1880 Associate of Inst Civil Engineers

1882 Went into partnership with A. B. Holmes as Holmes and Vaudrey, civil engineers in Liverpool.

1883 With Holmes he formed Liverpool Electric Supply Co

1888 Member of Society of Telegraph Engineers and Electricians

1889 Messrs. Chamberlain and Hookham obtained Provisional Order for Birmingham; eventually they disposed of this Order to Messrs. Holmes and Vaudrey of Liverpool.

In December 1889 the Birmingham Electric Supply Co Ltd. was formed to take up this Order. A site was acquired in Dale End, where a generating station and offices were erected.

1899 One of the secretaries (applications of electricity section) of the Engineering Conference organised by the Inst Civil Engineers.

1903 One of the secretaries (applications of electricity section) of the Engineering Conference organised by the Inst Civil Engineers.

1911 John Clough Vaudrey 57, M.I.C.E. retired, lived in Edgbaston with Alice Thelma Vaudrey 57, Christabel Vaudrey 23, Pauline Vaudrey 20, Mary Vaudrey 12.[5]

1937 Died in Birmingham[6]
