1911 March 25th. Died. 'A notable figure has passed out of the public life of Keighley by the death, Saturday evening, at Laurel Mount, Keighley, of Mr. Ira Ickringill. Mr. Ickringill, who had reached his 76th year, was chairman of Messrs. Ira Ickringill and Co. (Limited), of Eastwood Mills, Keighley, and Legrams Mill, Bradford. After working on his own account as commission agent in Bradford, he commenced in worsted spinning with his brothers. In 1871 the firm began to erect their Eastwood mills. Seven years later the concern fell on evil times, and 1879 a heavy fall in values compelled them to compound with their creditors for a payment of 13s. 6d. in the pound. The firm was reorganised, and in 1889 became a company limited to shares. The subject of this notice, with his partners keenly felt the position in which financial straits had placed them, and working on with indomitable resolution, they voluntarily paid off the old creditors the remaining 6s. 6d. in the pound, disbursing over £10,000 to wipe off all reproach.'
