1948 The Institution of Mechanics was formed

Early 1960s the Institution of Mechanics changed its name to the Institute of Engineers (Practical).

1967 The Institute of Engineers (Practical) changed its name to the Institute of Engineers and Technicians

1998 the Institution of Mechanical Incorporated Engineers, the Institution of Electronics and Electrical Incorporated Engineers and the Institute of Engineers and Technicians merged to form the Institution of Incorporated Engineers (IIE).
