Hull and East Riding Museum

'Henry's Gun', a 'port piece' breech-loading cannon dating from the mid 16thC., when it was located at Hull's South Blockhouse. The barrel and breech block were found during excavations in 1997. The barrel is made from wrought iron staves bound by hoops, hence the name 'barrel'.

Hull in Hull: stern of the remarkable Hasholme boat, built over 2,300 years ago from an oak tree trunk which was around 800 years old at the time. 12.5m (41 ft) long, the hull was dicovered by archaeologists in 1984. It is housed in the 'Boatlab' where it is underoing continuing preservation treatment
