HUGH LEWIN MONK, born in India on the 13th November, 1844, died at Wadhurst, Kent, on the 29th July, 1916.
Passing out of Roorkee College, he entered the Indian Public Works Department in 1865, serving therein until his retirement with the rank of Executive Engineer, first grade, in 1899. During that period he was engaged on the survey and construction of railways and the erection of large bridges, on the frontier and throughout India and Burma.
He was elected an Associate on the 7th December, 1875, subsequently became an Associate Member, and was transferred to the class of Members on the 11th November, 1890.
