HORATIO GIBBS POWELL died at his residence in Wolverhampton on February 17, 1909, at the age of sixty-four.

He was prominently associated with public and business affairs in the district. In early life he took a deep interest in the study of chemistry, and while in the employment of Messrs. T. & C. Clark of Wolverhampton, he made an important discovery regarding the enamelling of ironware. He was a member of the British Association, a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, and was elected a member of the Iron and Steel Institute in 1890.
