1870 Maharaja Holkar offers loan of Rs. 100 Lakhs (£1 million) for the construction on a line to his capital city of Indore and connecting with the Great Indian Peninsula Railway at Khandwa

1872 Construction commenced

1874 First section opened, 37 miles of line

1876 The Narbada Bridge opened.

By 1879 there were 172 miles of line - the Holkar and Sindia-Neemuch Railway
