Herbert Morris Lonsdale was born in 1879, educated at Ilkley College and Leeds Grammar School, and apprenticed to engineering.

In 1899 he became partner in the firm of Monk and Lonsdale and in 1904 proprietor of the Lonsdale Motor Company.

Since 1904 he had been proprietor of the Harborough Motor Co., Market Harborough.

He died on 27th September, 1941, at the age of 62.

He was elected an Associate Member in 1911 and was transferred to Member in 1922.
