Educated at King's College, London

1880 Went to live at Toynbee Hall where he lived for 30 years

1883 Became a member of Inst Civil Engineers

1884 Appeared as one of the expert witnesses for Kirk and Randall in the arbitration on the construction of Tilbury Docks

1892 Elected to the London County Council; became chairman of the LCC Works Department; served on LCC for 33 years

Also was a member of the Metropolitan Water Board which he served for 30 years

1936 Died in London
