Henry Nelson Ewer was born in 1877 and apprenticed at the Great Western Railway Locomotive Works, Swindon, following which he spent four years in the Drawing Office of the Company.

In 1904 he started the firm of Gurney and Ewer, Ltd., and was Managing Director from 1929 onwards.

He died on 3rd August, 1944, at the age of 67.

He was elected a Member in 1938.
