Henry Charles Church (1870-1923) of J. A. Phillips and Co
1870 Born in Birmingham the son of Henry Charles Church, senior, a Jeweller's shopman, and his wife Eliza (born in France).
1872 May 1st Baptised on May 1st 1872 at Holy Trinity Church, Bordesley, Birmingham - his date of birth is not given. Father is Henry Charles Church and Mother Eliza Church. His fathers occupation is given as ‘Manager of Jewellery Warehouse’, and the family is living at Trinity Terrace.
1881 Father ‘Harry C. Church’ is the landlord of the Crown and Anchor in Jennens Row, Birmingham. Henry, junior, is now at school and has a sister Florence aged four and a brother Horice (sic) aged ten months. They have a domestic servant Ann M. Rudge.[1].
1891 Recorded as ‘Harry Church’ – the family has grown – he now has five siblings, Florence, Horrace, (sic) William, Walter and Winifred. His father is still the landlord of the ‘Crown and Anchor’, but the address is now given as 30 Chapel Street, Bordesley, Birmingham.
1901 Living in Station Road, Knowle; this was an upmarket country village to the South of Birmingham. There is just him and his wife, no children, but one general domestic servant. His ‘profession or occupation’ is given as ‘Cycle Pedal Manufacturer’ and he is recorded as an employer [1901 Census].
1896 October 7th. Joins the St Alphege Lodge of Solihull, a Freemasonry brotherhood; his profession is given as ‘Manager of Cycle Co’ and he is living at Bartholomew Street, Solihull. 1897 June 14th. Married in Edgbaston to Annie Isabel Harris. HCC is described as a manager and the son of Henry Charles Church, gentleman.
1911 Living at 18 Wakegreen Road, Moseley, Birmingham: Henry Charles Church (age 40 born Birmingham), Cycle Fittings Manufacturer - Employer. With his wife Annie Isabel Church (age 33 born Birmingham). Two servants.[2]
1912 May 8th. Leaves on ‘SS Oceanic’ from Southampton to United States; his address is given as 116 Golden Hillock Road, Small Heath. Birmingham.
1913 May 27th. Leaves from Liverpool, on the ‘Baltic’, a ship of the White Star Line, to New York with his wife, occupation ‘Manufacturer’,
1913 June. Leaves from New York to British Columbia with his wife
1920 May 19th. Leaves Buenos Aires on the ‘Andes’ to Southampton, with his wife
