Henry Barclay

From Graces Guide

1842 Patented the first vitrified bonded emery wheel, made by pressing a mixture of Stourbridge Clay and emery into a mould and firing it. Patent No. 9337, 30 April 1842.[1]

It is said to have given a really efficient wheel, but it does not appear to have been practically worked, as only small discs, say eight or nine inches diameter, could be made, owing to the difficulty of avoiding cracks and distortion in the process of firing.[2]
