Harry Noble

Harry Noble (c1861-1929), chairman and managing director of Noble and Lund

1929 Died. 'The death occurred at Gateshead, last night, of Mr. Harry Noble, chairman and managing director of Messrs. Noble and Lund, machine tool makers. Mr. Noble, who was 68 years of age was a native of Bradford, and served his apprenticeship at Keighley, and was later chief draughtsman at Messrs. J. S. Butterfield and Sons, Keighley. He went to Tyneside in 1886, and, with Mr. P. Lund, founded the firm of Noble and Lund, Newcastle, later transferring the business to Felling-on-Tyne. Mr. Noble was a prominent Freemason in Durham county, and the time of his death was Deputy Provincial Grand Registrar of Durham. He was also identified with the Congregational Church in the North of England. He leaves three sons, and two daughters.'[1]

...Mr. Noble served his apprenticeship with a firm of machine tool makers at Keighley, and subsequently accepted an appointment with Butterfield and Sons| Messrs. J and F. Butterfield and Sons]] of that town, eventually reaching the position of Chief Draughtsman. On leaving Keighley he spent some time at the Central Marine Engine Works of Wm. Gray and Co., Ltd., of West Hartlepool, on special work.

In 1886 Mr. Noble moved to Newcastle-on-Tyne, and entered into partnership with Mr. Pearson Lund at Forth Banks~ as machine tool makers. Later the works were transferred to Felling-on-Tyne, and in 1899 the business was formed into a limited company, with Mr. Noble as Chairman and Managing Director....
