1899 The company was registered on 6 May. [1] The company had a capital of £250,000, and was formed to enter into an agreement between John Henry Harrowing, shipowner, Whitby, of the one part, and William R. Jackson (on behalf of the company) of the other part, to obtain the management interest in a fleet of vessels formerly managed by John Henry Harrowing, and to purchase one other steamship and shares in steamships, and to carry on the business of shipowners, charterers, freight contractors, general traders, and merchants.[2]

1920 John Henry Harrowing became chairman of the company. He was knighted the following year. Sir John died at the age of 77 in 1937.[3]

1938 The company went into voluntary liquidation.[4]
