Sir Harold West (Companion) former Managing Director of Newton Chambers, died on 8th November, aged 74.

Sir Harold joined Newton Chambers as Assistant Commercial Manager of the Izal department, at Thorncliffe, Sheffield. In 1922 he was appointed Commercial Manager and then General Manager. Due to his outstanding achievements he was made Managing Director in 1941. His pioneering activities in youth movements attracted the interest and approval of educationalists as well as industrialists throughout the country.

In 1948 he was knighted in recognition of his services to industry and commerce and he retired from the Board of Newton Chambers in May 1956.

Sir Harold was made a Companion of the Institution in 1953.

The Institution has lost a distinguished member who was regarded with affection and respect.
