1891 Shepherd and Ayrton
The 1905 O.S. map  shows Gorebrook Iron Works on Pink Bank Lane in an area called Nutsford Vale. Immediately to the south was the small Gore Brook, whose foul condition occupied many newspaper column-inches in the early 1900s. To the east were fields, and the Gorton UDC sewage works. Immediately to the north was a dye works, and to the west, streets of terraced houses.
