1918 'The district lost two well-known men in Major T. H. Lucas, of Dronfield, and Major G. McD. Clench, of Chesterfield. The former, who died in June at the age 64, was the sole proprietor of the firm of Edward Lucas and Sons, the oldest malleable iron foundry in the world, and was an old officer of the Hallamshire Rifles. The latter was a son of Mr. Frederick Clench, who founded the firm of Clench and Co., engineers, and was for a considerable time assistant works manager there. He was for many years an officer in the Sheffield Artillery, and saw active service in France, afterwards joining the Ministry of Munitions at Glasgow. He died in July, aged 55. [1]
