Captain Gerald W. Ferguson, M.C., A.F.C., died suddenly on August 2nd, 1940. Educated at Newton College, Newton Abbot, his engineering training was received at the Swindon locomotive shops of the Great Western Railway, under the late Mr. G. J. Churchward.
Serving in His Majesty’s Forces from 1914 to 1919, he rose from Private to the rank of Captain in the R.A.F. Joining the Assam-Bengal Railway in 1919 as Assistant Locomotive Superintendent he afterwards became Works Manager of the Locomotive Carriage and Wagon Shops at Pahartali, resigning in November, 1929.
In 1930 he took up air navigation in England and became senior navigation instructor (civil) at an R.A.F. School. He was elected a Member of the Institution in March, 1930.
