1916 Died. 'The death of Ald George Thomas Grey, head of the Holborn Engineering Works, Rosemont, Westoe, formed the subject inquiry conducted by Mr R. A. Shepherd, deputy coroner, at the Court Buildings, South Shields, last night. Evidence of identification was given Alex. Alexander, son-in-law, who stated that Ald Grey was 64 years age, and was an engine builder and repairer. Thomas Johnson Storey, chief draughtsman, employed at Ald Grey's works, stated that on Jan. 14th he took four men on board the streamer Madryn, lying at the South Dock, Sunderland, to finish erecting the new engines. Subsequently the deceased, who was in full charge, came into the engine room, and, while they were testing the engines, a condenser door burst, with the result that Aid Grey and the other four men were scalded. Their injuries were temporarily dressed, after which the four men were taken hospital, while Aid Grey was removed to his home in a motor ambulance....'[2]
