George James Shave (1868-1933), Chief Engineer of the London Omnibus Co
1932/33 Obituary 
George James Shave was born in 1868, and received his technical education at the Westbourne Institute.
After serving a general engineering apprenticeship with Clayton, Howlett and Co, he took up a position as electrical engineer with Paterson and Cooper of Dalston, and was subsequently General Foreman with an engineering firm at Richmond, outside Manager for Smeeton and Page, Works Manager of the Locomobile Co, and Manager of the S. M. Car Syndicate.
In 1912 he joined the London General Omnibus Co as Works Manager of the Walthamstow Depot, and in 1914 he was appointed to the operating side, eventually becoming Operating Manager and Chief Engineer. In the latter capacity he was responsible for establishing the great repair works of the Company at Chiswick.
He was elected a Member of the Institution of Automobile Engineers in 1910, and served on the Council from 1920 until 1925.
He died on January 31st, 1933, at the age of 64.
1933 Obituary 
GEORGE JAMES SHAVE was well known as chief engineer of the London General Omnibus Company, which appointment he had held for over fourteen years. He was responsible for the installation in 1922 of the company's central overhaul works at Chiswick. His association with the company commenced in 1912, when he was appointed manager of the Walthamstow works of the Associated Equipment Company. The following year he became assistant engineer and in 1915 assistant chief engineer. In 1918 he was appointed chief engineer and in 1923 he was given the additional position of operating manager. He resigned the latter position in 1931, but continued his work as chief engineer.
Mr. Shave was born in 1868 and received his technical education at the Westbourne Park Institute. He served his apprenticeship from 1882 to 1889 at the Atlas Works of Messrs. Clayton and Company, Paddington. He first became actively connected with the motor car industry when he was appointed works manager in London of the Locomobile Company of America. Mr. Shave later held responsible positions in various engineering firms and was made managing director in 1908 of the S. M. Syndicate, of Hythe Road, Willesden.
He was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1905 and was transferred to Membership in 1911.
He died on 31st January 1933.
